Join us on Saturday 12th October to celebrate the change in seasons and the abundance of Autumn.Every year hundreds of apples grown throughout Angus are wasted. This is a chance to bring along your surplus apple yields and contribute to this year's apple juice. If you bring some apples from your trees, you will get a lovely bottle of juice to take home.
‘Apple Day’, first launched in 1990 by Common Ground with an aspiration to create a calendar custom, an autumn holiday. From the start, Apple Day was intended to be both a celebration and a demonstration of the variety we are in danger of losing, not simply in apples, but in the richness and diversity of landscape, ecology and culture too.
Programme
11am (and throughout the day) – Bring along the last of your own apple crops for juicing. Either bring your own bottles or we will have some available so that you can take away the juice that we will be made on the day from late season wind falls. We have a fruit press on loan from Sustainable Kirriemuir.
12 noon –Apple Dooking – come and bob (without dunking your head) for apples and receive a toffee apple prize!
2pm - Learn how to make Apple Jelly.
11am - 2pm - Free Drawing School - Apple Still Life. Use some of our drawing materials to draw an appley still life.
3pm - 4pm - Hospitalfield Photo Club. Learn how to make camera-less images and be inspired by our orchard and wildflower meadow.
