The Metchosin Pomological Society is back with the 267th Apple-Bee Festival on Sunday September 29th from 11:00am - 3:00pm
at the Metchosin Community House! Come spend a fun fall day celebrating all things apple and bee from our local community!
There will be many cool hands-on apple activities and interesting bee demonstrations! It's a long list but there will be apple cider making,
apple sauce making, caramel apple making and you can even make your own apple pie with pie shells donated by the Royal Bay Bakery.
There are also those other activities we do with apples too, such as hurling them with locally made medieval siege engines like catapults
and ballistae, and learning more about apple tree pruning from a local apple orchard doctor Peter Michaux. Derek Wulff has also offered to
give a demostration on grafting.
The highlight for many is the apple tasting tent providing taste testing of a wide variety of local and heritage apples.
We invite you to bring that mystery apple in your back yard that tastes so good and put our experts to work - and bring some for
the community to taste!
We will have experts on hand to help identify apples and in the spirit of inclusivity please feel free to bring ripe pear varieties that
you mave have too!
On the bee side we will have a demonstration hive with live, wild, free-range bees, and an extracting demonstration - so you can see how we
get honey from the hives - and tasting local honey of course! Local experts Karen and Werner Grundlingh will be on hand as always to
answer any questions you have about bees, and they will have some local honey for sale too!
Most activities are free, but there is a small fee for making the apple pie, and the treats in tea room, if you want to sit and have some
apple pie and ice cream and apple-carrot soup.
It is also a farmer's market day so while you are at the market picking up locally produced food and products, keep an eye out for a limited
number of grafted apple/pear trees for sale from our spring grafting session!
The MPS will gratefully accept apple donations for the juice making and other events. We will even come to your house and collect the apples!

So if you are looking for one of those great fall events celebrating the harvest of local food and then ways to crush, eat and throw it,
come on down to the Community House and enjoy the Apple-Bee festival! - there will even be some local vendors selling apples and bee
products (like honey!).
