COURSE DESCRIPTION

The Pediatric Chemotherapy and Biotherapy Provider Program is designed to provide nurses with the knowledge base needed to safely care for children and adolescents receiving chemotherapy or biotherapy.

Nurses will learn both the theoretical knowledge and key principles needed to safely, competently, and consistently administer chemotherapy and biotherapy. Nurses who have successfully completed the APHON Pediatric Chemotherapy and Biotherapy Providers program will have been provided with information about the highest standards and practices in pediatric chemotherapy and biotherapy.



LEARNING OBJECTIVES

At the conclusion of this program, learners will be able to:

  • Develop and apply clinical reasoning skills to safely and effectively administer chemotherapy and biotherapy
  • Identify the toxicities and side effects of hazardous drugs
  • Utilize evidence-based resources in the care of patients receiving chemotherapy and biotherapy
  • Apply the standards of practice as outlined in the APHON chemotherapy/biotherapy curriculum to their workplace
  • Educate patients and families about treatment regimens, expected toxicities, and management

CONTINUING EDUCATION

The Association of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Nurses (APHON) is accredited as a provider of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.

Participants will be awarded 14 CNE contact hours upon completion of the course, post-test and evaluation. Active providers auditing the course as a refresher will be awarded 14 CNE contact hours upon completion of the course and evaluation.

All disclosures will be mentioned at the beginning of the course.

We urge attendees to be aware of the continuing education requirements of their own state board of nursing, especially for those states in which CE is mandatory. Final acceptance of awarded CNE contact hours for audit participants is not guaranteed by APHON and is up to the discretion of each state’s nursing board.



TARGET AUDIENCE

Participants must be licensed registered nurses. This course content is appropriate for nurses who are new to pediatric and adolescent chemotherapy and biotherapy administration, as well as for those who want a comprehensive review.

LPNs and unlicensed staff who believe that they may benefit from the course content are welcome to audit but may not take the exam nor receive a provider card. Participants who audit the course must pay the course fee unless they possess and bring a copy of the current edition of the curriculum.

For Stanford Children's Health/LPCH Employees: Effective August 01, 2020, the Center for Professional Excellence and Inquiry at Stanford Children's Health will ONLY accept credit card payments for course fees and materials. REGISTRATION
  • Pre-registration is required. Registration closes 2 weeks prior to course date.
  • Early registration ends on October 13, 2021 per APHON requirements.
  • Late registrations are welcome but will be subjected to the $40 late fee.
  • Last day to register is October 27, 2021.


COVID-19 ACCOMMODATION PROCESS

The Center for Professional Excellence and Inquiry (CPEI) at Stanford Children’s Health is closely monitoring the COVID-19 developments. Our highest priority and commitment is to protect the health and safety of our staff, class participants, and facilitators so we can continue to serve our patients and the community.

To meet the current guidelines of the organization and the Center for Disease Control and Prevention to make our classes as safe as we can, we are implementing the following actions effective immediately:

  • Stanford Children’s Health has a mandatory vaccination policy for staff unless there is an approved medical or religious waiver.
  • All participants (internal and external) will be screened for signs and symptoms of COVID-19 regardless of vaccination status and must complete the SCH Self Health Reporting attestation.
  • Visitors to our facilities (including external participants attending classes) are required to show proof of vaccination status/record (paper or online) or a negative COVID-19 test result taken within 72 hours prior to the class.
  • COVID-19 safety protocols must be followed at all times including but not limited to wearing masks and social distancing.


CANCELLATION and REFUND
  • Cancellation at least 2 weeks (10 business days) prior to course date will be provided full refund
  • Cancellation less than 2 weeks (10 business days) prior to course date will be refunded minus processing fee of $35
  • NO REFUND will be offered for cancellation less than 5 business days prior and for no show or cancellation on the day of the class

  • Cancellation by CPEI: Schedules, venues and details are subject to change and cancellation. Registered participants will be provided with as much advance notice as possible if this should occur. If CPEI cancels class, full refund will be given.
