APA-OK Certified Citizen Planner Training
About this Event
This four-part Certified Citizen Planner training series, generously sponsored by OG&E, is designed to equip planning commission members, board members, and community leaders with the knowledge needed to confidently navigate local planning and development decisions.
Across four sessions, participants will build a strong foundation in planning principles, public processes, and implementation tools. Topics include:
- Planning fundamentals and leadership, including planning history, design practices, and the role of planning in local communities
- Public meetings and community engagement, including Open Meetings Act requirements and best practices for managing effective meetings
- Planning Commission and Board of Adjustment roles, including public hearings and decision-making frameworks
- Long-range planning, including comprehensive plans and how they guide zoning, economic development, and growth
- Zoning, subdivision, and building codes, and how these regulations shape development outcomes
- Advanced planning tools, including overlay districts, PUDs/SPUDs, and other implementation strategies
Participants will also work through real-world examples and interactive exercises to apply what they’ve learned in a practical, peer-based setting.
