Nrithyodaya- The Academy of Performing Arts, Mumbai, was established in 1976 by the Bharata Nrityam exponent, Dr. Jayashree Rajagopalan, Maharashtra Rajya Sanman Puraskar Awardee. Dr. Jayashree is the senior most disciple of Padma Vibhushan Awardee, Dr. Padma Subrahmanyam. Our institution has been earnestly educating and spreading awareness regarding Bharata Nrityam and its underlying harmony with world dance, through constant research, lec-dems and workshops. The theme of this year’s ANUGRAHAM Festival, is the life and works of Maharaja Sri Swathi Thirunal, who is credited with composing over 400 compositions in the Carnatic and Hindustani styles. Sangeet Natak Akademi awardee Gopika Varma, the famous Mohinattam dancer, member of the erstwhile Royal Family of Travancore will present Mohiniattam. Nrithyodaya, Mumbai, along with other local dance Gurus will be presenting a dance ballet ‘Swachhandah Swathi - a Star among Stars’, showcasing Maharaja Swathi Thirunal’s musical journey and contribution. Sanmargadarshi Award to be conferred on Sangeet Natak Akademi Awardee, Vidushi Radha Namboodiri, whose disciples will also present a vocal concert rendering the Maharaja’s compositions. Cine Star & Bharata Nrityam exponent Sri Vineet Radhakrishnan, has kindly consented to be the Chief Guest.
