Take a step back in time to December 1864 as General William T. Sherman's troops were closing in on Fort McAllister, ending his famous March to the Sea. On Saturday, December 10th, experience living history reenactments, including infantry demonstrations and blacksmithing, as well as a reenactment of the final assault of Fort McAllister that took place on December 13, 1864. Additional schedule of weekend events:
Friday, December 9th:
7 pm: Pre-battle encampment tour
Saturday, December 10th:
10 am: Guided Fort Tour
12 pm: Fort tour for Kids
2 pm: Guided Fort Tour
5 pm: Final Battle Reenactment *ARRIVE EARLY (ARRIVE BY 4:00) TICKET SALES END AT 4:30, AND YOU WILL NEED TIME TO PARK AND GET TO THE FORT.
7 pm: Post-battle encampment Tour
Cost: $15 per person for one-day admission or $20 Weekend Pass (good for Friday, December 9th, Saturday, December 10th, and Sunday, December 11th). No ParkPass is required with admission.

ABOUT FORT MCALLISTER:
Located south of Savannah on the banks of the Ogeechee River, Fort McAllister showcases the best-preserved earthwork fortification of the Confederacy. The earthworks were attacked seven times by Union ironclads but did not fall until 1864 -- ending Gen. William T. Sherman’s “March to the Sea.” Visitors can explore the grounds with cannons, a furnace, bombproof barracks, palisades, and more, while a Civil War museum contains artifacts, a video, and a gift shop.
Nestled among giant live oaks, Spanish moss, and salt marsh, this park is a beautiful location for camping, fishing, boating, and picnicking. Seven cabins sit on stilts near the marsh, surrounded by palm trees and palmettos. The shaded campground is bordered by tidal Redbird Creek, a boat ramp, a fishing dock, and a nature trail. A large picnic area offers river views and playgrounds, while another boat ramp provides access to the Ogeechee River.
