A quarter auction is a fun fast paced way to raise some money for a great cause. It is really simple but here is the long version on how it works.
We will use Baxter as an example....
Baxter rents 3 paddles (they are $5 a piece or 5 for $20). A prize is brought to the stage, in this example It is a gift card to your favorite store. The auctioneer gives a description of the gift card being auctioned off and tells the bidders that it is a $50 value and the bid is 2 quarters. Anyone who has purchased a paddle may bid. Baxter has 3 paddles so he must decide if he wants to use all 3 of his paddles to bid for a total of $1.50, (50¢ per paddle), or if he only wants to use one or two of his paddles. Now Baxter doesn't have to bid at all if he's not interested in the product but in this case Baxter is interested but only wants to bid a total of $1.00 so Baxter picks 2 of his paddles to hold in the air and keeps one in his lap. After all quarters have been collected the auctioneer pulls a numbered chip from a container and if the bidder is holding that paddle in the air, then they win the auction item. Baxter's numbers are 4,8, and 87 Baxter has picked paddles 4 & 8 to hold up and 87 is in his lap because he did not bid with that paddle. The auctioneer pulls #87, well Baxter didn't bid that paddle so Baxter says no bid and the auctioneer continues to pull numbers until he calls a number that has been bid. It is a TON of fun we have some great prizes.
