Insurance

The event has insurance. However, we encourage everyone to obtain their own. Shooting cannons, and being around cannons firing live, is dangerous even under the best of supervision and care.

Please keep in mind that many of the event restrictions that we have in place are required by the insurance carrier. We cannot obtain insurance without full compliance with the insurance carrier’s requests by all participants. Please understand that and help us have a safe fully compliant event.

General Event Concept

For our Annual Gallant John Pelham Artillery Competition and Shoot; we seek to pull quality artillerists from across the country together to enjoy our sport, fellowship and camaraderie. We have a spectacular site in middle Tennessee on which to shoot. We are very grateful to Dr. Brian Shepard for continuing the event first hosted by Matt Brothers. The site is just northwest of Chattanooga, and south of Nashville, right off Interstate 24 at exit 127. The sites distance will allow us to shoot out to1000 Yards. It is very safe venue, with a Mountain, rising 1000 plus feet, as the backstop. It is free of buildings for several miles.

Our previous year’s shoots were a great success. At the 2021 event we had 34 guns and 10 mortars attend. Each year we have made improvements in and on the site. We enjoyed good fellowship, made some great new friends, had a safe shoot, and had a great time as well. We hope to build on the lessons we learned from the 2018, 2019, 2021 shoots to make 2022 an even better event.

Course of Fire

Saturday will consist of an open range session. We will shoot at targets out to1000 yards with targets placed at varying distances to fire at. The targets will be 55 Gallon Barrels, lots of them. The open session is for rifles and smooth bores. You may shoot as many, or as few, rounds as you like. We will schedule out the range in 45 minute courses of fire, allowing you to practice engaging targets at various ranges. If you have never fired live, you can request the help of experienced Gunners to help you get started by contacting either Steve Cameron or Harry Uffalussy in advance of the shoot.

Sunday will be the Competition portion of the event. Rifled guns will shoot at static targets out to 1000 Yards. Space on the gun line is limited. If we have sufficient preregistration we will have Field and Mountain Gun divisions. Course of fire will be 15 rounds. If we have enough interest we will shoot smooth bored guns at 600 yards as well.

Rules for the Shoot:

• No alcohol on site at any time, no exceptions.

• Everyone must register with the appropriate insurance waiver signed to participate as a cannoneer or spectator.

• Registration armbands must be worn at all times.
