About this Event
Welcome to Animation Under the Lens: Embracing Diverse Perspectives! Join us for an exciting in-person event at Auckland University of Technology.
The Animation, VFX, & Game Design (AVG) Department at AUT is delighted to invite you to a mini-symposium on the afternoon of Sunday July 7th. This event features a variety of presentations from our department academics that explore animation’s richly creative, conceptual, and technological capacities.
We are also joined by two special guest presenters: international academics Professor Paul Wells (from Loughborough University, UK) and Associate Professor Nicholas Miller (from Loyola University, USA). Paul Wells is regarded as one of the world’s foremost authorities in the field of Animation Studies, and is a prolific author and screenwriter who has worked with Tim Burton and Paul McCartney. His seminal book ‘Understanding Animation’ (1998) has become a classic text within both Animation and Film Studies.
Nicholas Miller is a Film, Animation, Literature, and James Joyce scholar, who has contributed highly-regarded essays to collected anthologies on the Aardman Studios, the stop-motion animation ‘Coraline’, and the topic of Animation & Memory.
This symposium will be of keen interest to students, staff, and practitioners in the fields of Animation, Film, Visual Arts, and Communication Studies. Book your free ticket today!
