Traditional animation techniques, such as cel animation, require the production of multiple hand-drawn images on paper which are then translated to inked and painted celluloid sheets or “cels.” The cels are photographed in sequence over a background painting to create the illusion of movement in animated films and television shows. With the rise of digital animation techniques, traditional animation has become increasingly rare. Most studios now use computer-generated imagery (CGI) to create their animated productions, which means there are no physical drawings, cels or other pieces of physical art that can be collected.
