About this Event
Welcome to Animals and Heritage Research Sharing Day!
Come join us at Strathclyde Business School (Room SW106)to meet with academics from Strathclyde and Glasgow Universities working in the field of animal history. This session, specifically designed for those working with Scotland’s heritage sector, will offer an opportunity to connect with researchers who explore the significance of human-animal relationships to our understanding of the past.
We will discuss potential opportunities for collaboration, including ways in which academic research on historical human-animal relations can support the work of Scotland’s heritage sector. The event will begin with a morning session focused on short ‘show-and tell’ presentations by academics (with time for brief q&a), showcasing research ranging from hunting and its impact on the environment to the vital role marine life has played in human cultures. This will then, via informal chat over lunch, lead to an hour’s discussion with attendees about how they see animals as having a potential role to play in their organisations: this discussion will be enabled by asking all attendees to complete a short questionnaire prior to the event. Finally, time will be set aside to offer the opportunity for one-to-one conversations between academics and organisations about future plans.
As a result of the event, heritage organisations and museums will have:
- Identified renewed opportunities for collaboration with academic organisations and each other;
- Developed knowledge on engaging with less-explored animal histories;
- Explored opportunities with researchers on how to connect with new audiences;
- Learned about opportunities for partnerships with the Universities of Strtahclyde and Glasgow.
Lunch and travel bursaries (up to £30 per person) for attendees will be provided; places are limited to 25.
