About this Event
Water is the most important component of all life in the forest here in the Northeast, and it’s cycle is drastically altered during winter months. This causes radical changes in an animal’s physiology and behavior in order to match the harsh changes in the environment. Since animals enter hibernation and torpor, others create a form of antifreeze, while others continue to move to maintain high body temperatures. This field workshop will engage you in the many different animal behaviors that occur during the winter months in Van Cortlandt Park. Be sure to dress warm and wear proper footwear!
Meeting Location: VCPA Educational Garden and Compost Site; enter park at Mosholu Avenue and Broadway intersection, the Garden and Compost Site is across from the Riverdale Stables parking lot.
