Animal Apprentices (age 7-9) - Winter 2023

Animal Apprentices provides youth with a positive experience of active involvement in our shelter through interaction with animals, structured volunteer shadowing opportunities, and inspiring and relevant guest speakers.

1. Learn about the humane treatment of all animals
2. Learn about the needs of all domestic animals in the shelter
3. Learn about wild animals and their habitats
4. Be able to identify body language signs for dogs, cats, bunnies, and more
5. Understand how to respond to different body languages of animals
6. Learn ways to be a pet’s best friend and how to properly play with pets
7. Learn about animal habitats and pet care
8. Create fun and engaging animal crafts
9. Experience special animal visits to help develop skills and knowledge about the animals at Calgary Humane Society
