Gŵyr, Abertawe… a’r byd!
Gower, Swansea… and the world!
Angharad Jenkins & Huw Warren - Under Gaia
29.10.2026 | Swansea Minster Abertawe
Daw dau o gerddorion blaenllaw Abertawe, Angharad Jenkins a Huw Warren, ynghyd o dan osodiad trawiadol Gaia gan Luke Jerram, am noson hudolus o gerddoriaeth sydd â’i gwreiddiau’n ddwfn yn nhirwedd, iaith a straeon Abertawe a Gŵyr.
Mae Jenkins, cantores a ffidlwraig, a Warren, pianydd jazz a chyfansoddwr, wedi chwilota drwy archifau a thraddodiadau lleol i ddarganfod caneuon ac alawon sy’n perthyn i’r fro y mae’r ddau yn ei galw’n gartref. O etifeddiaeth y canwr gwerin enwog o benrhyn Gŵyr, Phil Tanner, i hanesion am rasys ceffylau Abertawe a llongddrylliadau ym Mhwll Du, ynghyd â geiriau’r bardd lleol Nigel Jenkins, rhoddir bywyd newydd i ddarnau cyfarwydd ac anghyfarwydd o’r gorffennol drwy lais a phiano.
Gan symud yn rhwydd rhwng traddodiad gwerin a gwaith byrfyfyr jazz, mae’r ddeuawd yn plethu deunydd Cymraeg a Saesneg â cherddoriaeth newydd a ysbrydolwyd gan dirwedd Gŵyr, gan greu rhywbeth agos-atoch, cyfoes ac unigryw i’r fro hon.
O dan Gaia - delwedd oleuedig chwe metr o’r Ddaear gan Luke Jerram - mae’r cyngerdd arbennig hwn yn ein gwahodd i brofi cerddoriaeth ein cornel ni o’r byd, wrth edrych yn ôl ar y blaned sy’n gartref i ni oll.
*****
Acclaimed Swansea musicians Angharad Jenkins and Huw Warren come together beneath Luke Jerram’s spectacular Gaia installation for an atmospheric evening of music rooted in the landscape, language and stories of Swansea and Gower.
Singer and fiddle player Jenkins and jazz pianist and composer Warren have delved into local archives and traditions to uncover songs and melodies connected to the place they both call home. From the legacy of celebrated Gower folk singer Phil Tanner to tales of Swansea horse races and shipwrecks at Pwlldu, and the words of local poet Nigel Jenkins, familiar and lesser-known fragments of the past are given new life through voice and piano.
Moving freely between folk tradition and jazz improvisation, the duo weave Welsh and English-language material together with newly composed music inspired by the Gower landscape, creating something intimate, contemporary and unmistakably local.
Performed beneath Gaia, Luke Jerram’s six-metre illuminated Earth, this special concert invites audiences to experience the music of our corner of the world while looking back at the planet we all share.
