Music at Co-Cath Opens concludes its 2026-2027 season with a James MacMillan masterpiece
About this Event

Music at Co-Cath (MACC) concludes its 2026–2027 season, That We Are Here Is a Miracle, with James MacMillan's Angels Unawares. Commissioned by the Vatican and inspired by Pope Francis's reflections on migration and encounter, Angels Unawares takes its title from the biblical passage in Hebrews 13:2:

"Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for by doing so some have entertained angels without knowing it."

Through music of extraordinary emotional depth, MacMillan reflects on migration, compassion, belonging, and the dignity shared by every human being. Rather than offering simple answers, the work invites audiences into a space of reflection—asking us to consider what it means to welcome one another and how acts of encounter have the power to transform both guest and host.

Through immersive choral theater, Music at Co-Cath transforms the Co-Cathedral into a place of contemplation, empathy, and shared humanity.

In a world where division often dominates the conversation, Angels Unawares offers something increasingly rare: an opportunity to gather with others, listen deeply, and experience a work of art that reminds us of our common humanity. Like every Music at Co-Cath production, each performance exists only once, shaped by the people who come together to share it.

"One of the greatest challenges of our time is learning to see one another fully," says Artistic Director Alejandro Zuleta. "Angels Unawares reminds us that behind every journey, every displacement, and every act of welcome is a human being with hopes, fears, and dreams not unlike our own. The work asks us to move beyond labels and differences and recognize the dignity we all share. In many ways, it is the perfect conclusion to a season dedicated to the miracle of being here together."

As the final chapter of That We Are Here Is a Miracle, Angels Unawares explores the act of encounter, reminding us that some of life's most meaningful transformations begin simply by choosing to truly see one another.

All performances are free and open to the public with a suggested donation of $25.
