About this Event
A Sacred Concert hosted by Trinity Church in Fairview.
Andrew Killawee has enjoyed a rewarding career working as a music director in the Anglican tradition for more than 25 years.
Now he’s embarking on a parallel, and deeply personal project: a return to the church music of his childhood - specifically the Baptist hymnals that first shaped his understanding of spiritual and communal music-making.
By delving into these sacred pages, Andrew will attempt to reimagine melodies and harmonies that have largely been forgotten, through a contemporary lens influenced by his own 30 years of experience working in multiple genres of music.
For Andrew, this is the music of family gatherings, summer camps, and mid-week hymn sings – sounds that inspired community and faith for his family, friends, and the wider community around him

ARTIST BIO:
Andrew Killawee is an award-winning pianist, organist, and ensemble director with over 25 years of experience spanning classical, jazz, pop, and contemporary music. Known for his versatility and collaborative spirit, Andrew’s work bridges concert performance, sacred music, and creative production.
Since 2003, Andrew has served as Organist and Choir Director at St. Paul’s Anglican Church in Halifax’s historic Grand Parade, where his leadership reflects a deep commitment to both musical excellence and community engagement.
Beyond the church, Andrew’s career has been marked by a wide range of artistic collaborations. He toured internationally as keyboardist with the JUNO Award–winning Johnny Favourite Swing Orchestra, and in 2005 founded EvenTide, a Renaissance choral ensemble dedicated to early music performance. More recently, he has performed as pianist with the Last Waltz tribute act Eastern Stars, and worked as producer on Stranger Still, a celebrated musical interpretation of the poetry of Alden Nowlan, created with longtime collaborator Pete Johnston.
Andrew’s musical life also includes work as a guest singer and choral leader, an ongoing improvisation-based organ and saxophone collaboration with colleague David Christensen, performances with brass bands and rock bands - and composing and performing music for multiple film soundtracks.
Currently, Andrew is embarking on a deeply personal project: a return to the church music of his childhood—specifically the Baptist hymnals that first shaped his understanding of communal music-making. Working as a solo artist, he is reimagining these melodies and harmonies to explore the emotional, social, and spiritual resonance of congregational song.
