Concert Performance: Andrea Keller – solo piano
In this special concert presentation, Australian pianist and composer Andrea Keller performs pieces from Forty-one Pieces for Piano, a collection of arrangements of her compositions for two and four hands. Along with improvisations prompted by her 100 Concepts for Cultivating Creativity.

Workshop: Unlocking Creativity Friday 12 May 2026 @ 2-4pm
In this special workshop presentation, Australian pianist and composer Andrea Keller demonstrates her approach to practicing improvisation and how she turns improvisational material into compositions and vehicles for further improvisatory explorations. Key areas of investigation are:
• Free improvisation as a tool for creative learning
• Concepts and starting points for improvisation and composition
• Cultivating creativity in musicians at all stages
This workshop empowers teachers and students, whose predominant focus is on notated music, with strategies and resources to explore improvisation and the creation of original music. All instrumentalists and vocalists are welcome to attend. No prior experience in jazz or improvisation is required.

About Andrea
Andrea Keller is one of Australia’s most original and influential voices in improvised jazz and art music. A multi-award-winning pianist and composer, she has released over 20 albums of her work, forging a distinct sound at the forefront of jazz and improvised music.
A champion of Australian creative music and a nurturer of emerging musicians, Andrea curates Monday nights at the Jazzlab in Melbourne, runs the educational program Gender Defying Jazz (for female and gender-diverse musicians), and is Head of Jazz & Improvisation at the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music, University of Melbourne.
With a passion for sharing the art of improvisation and methods for cultivating creativity, she has created two resources aiming to inspire creative learning in music teachers and students.

Forty-one Pieces for Piano
A collection of arrangements / compositions for two and four hands by Andrea Keller. With repertoire spanning her professional career, the arrangements reflect a contemporary jazz stylistic focus and cater to a variety of playing abilities. Many of the pieces include opportunities for improvisation, with tools and guidance provided to assist.

100 Concepts for Cultivating Creativity
100 prompts that serve as impetus for improvisation and composition, developed by Andrea Keller and presented in a card deck for musicians of all ages and stages.
