Both the Spanish and British Empires claimed rights to Georgia, but who was the first? This amazing New Year's Day history hike will take visitors on two different journeys. Beginning in 1721, a British Redcoat soldier will take you on a tour of Fort King George. Examine the strategic defenses that made it possible for the Georgia colony in 1733. Then, travel back in time to 1560 with a Spanish Tercio musketeer at the edge of the Altamaha River. Explore the tools used to navigate uncharted lands for the short-lived Spanish missions in the 1660s.
Will you be able to determine who was the first European to claim Georgia?
