An exhibition of works by a local photographer Heji, documenting his time being housed as an asylum applicants in Napier Barracks. With the rise of far-right violence and increasing dehumanisation of refugees and asylum applicants, Heji’s stark works display a much-needed counter-narrative. What kind of society treats human beings this way?
This exhibition is completely DIY, planned by Heji and friends at Star and Shadow. We share a frustration at the growing ostracisation of refugees. Did you know, a recent legal change means refugees can no longer become citizens, leaving them permanently treated as “second-class” human beings in the eyes of the law?
We want to create a space of sharing, conversation, safety, and action around protecting one another as human beings. Watch this space for more information on workshops and meetings linked to the exhibition.
