The multimedia presentation, based on the book Becoming FLO, A Mostly True Story tells the inspiring, real life tale of the 16-year old Orthodox Jewish boy who fled home in 1903 from his abusive homophobic father, joined a traveling circus, overcame anti-Semitism, found fame as one of Ringling’s most celebrated clowns appearing in the center ring and onscreen, and found – herself, Flo. It was 40 years after her Uncle Albert’s death that the author learned of Flo. This is a remarkable story about the power of art, courage and hope. For those who similarly struggle, Flo’s story illuminates a way out. The book and presentation has held readers and audiences enthralled for its dazzling images, laughter, tears, joy and emotional punch. Book sale/signing to follow. Festival and book talk hosted by Tampa JCCs and Federation.
