We invite you to join us for an open seminar about the recent developments in Syria hosted by ICSRU (Islamic Cultures and Societies Research Unit) and Orientalisten.The victory of Hayʾat Tahrir al-Sham in Syria brought an unexpected end to the thirteen years of conflict that started at the height of the “Arab Spring." But what will happen next? What can history teach us? Which narrative and what vision will win? Where is Syria going?
Three experts start the discussion:
⚫ Mark Sedgwick (Arab and Islamic Studies, AU), "Stability in Syria: A historical perspective."
⚫ Christine Crone (Cross-Cultural and Regional Studies, KU), ”The (continued) battle over the narrative: Syrian cultural productions before and after the fall of Assad”
⚫ Morten Valbjørn (Political Science, AU), "Transition without teleology: Syria after Bashar."
Following these presentations, the floor will be open.
The seminar will be held in 1453-116 from 14.15-16.00.
