"Stories of an Abandoned Virginia " Halloween Mansion Night Tour
About this Event
In the darkness of Halloween night, you enter the iconic abandoned Dunnington Mansion - candles lit, incense burning, acoustic Alice in Chains playing on the Sonos. After a brief indoor and outdoor flashlight tour of the iconic decaying Victorian mansion, you will be led to a room in the house for John Plashal's visual storytelling presentation. John has not only spent many years identifying and photographing beautifully abandoned and decaying houses, churches, schools, asylums and other structures throughout our state but has assimilated into their respective communities to learn about their accompanying backstories. The result is "Stories of an Abandoned Virginia", a unique presentation full of powerful imagery and emotional stories revolving around local landmarks that have been "frozen in time". Halloween night inside of the Dunnington Mansion is the perfect venue and the perfect evening to experience this program. Seats are limited. First come, first serve.
Originally known as the Poplar Hill Plantation, the current beautifully abandoned Dunnington Mansion was actually a very modest four room home before it was acquired by Captain John Knight, who eventually passed it down to his daughter India and her tobacco tycoon husband, Walter Grey Dunnington. A subsequent massive renovation by the Dunningtons expanded the square footage of the house to 8500, including 14 rooms. Currently abandoned for over two decades, the mansion now sits alone by herself, in a beautiful state of decay and under the ownership of the Dunnington Mansion Foundation.
