"Songs of Longing and Desire" Robin Chapel Choir (Upper voices)

This concert is an exploration of themes of heartfelt longing and lost love, contrasted with playfulness and mischievous teasing in songs from France, Scotland, Hungary and Ireland.
The music spans several centuries from as far back as the Middle Ages, through to the Renaissance and then sprinting ahead to 20th and 21st century works. The relationship between folk music in the Medieval and Renaissance periods are quite intimate and crossovers in style and technique can often be interchangeable. Moving into the 20th century and beyond, we see a different relationship between the two genres, with classical music often looking to folk music to connect in new ways with cultural roots, and experimenting with style, melodies, structure and harmony to create something new and exciting yet somehow also familiar.
We hope to bring you a taste of how these different worlds collide and crossover in a multitude of ways to create a provocative and playful experience for listeners.
