About this Event

Join us for an all-ages "shine your light" themed storytime and craft at Ten Trees Books with authors Kari Allen (Author of Night Prints) & Carrie Kruck (Author of Iggy Who Breathes Fire).

About Carrie and Kari: Since meeting as pre-published writers in 2016, Kari Allen and Carrie Kruck (aka “Kari-with-a-K” and “Carrie-with-a-C”) have shared not only a name and a passion for children’s literature...they’ve also become the best of friends! And now, after almost a decade of supporting each other through the publishing journey and through life’s ups & downs, they have 17 children’s books between them either published or under contract.

At this storytime, they’ll be sharing Night Prints and Iggy Who Breathes Fire.

Night Prints by Kari Allen: Discover the magic of nighttime and guess which animal made which tracks in this new board book with die-cuts throughout from the creators of Whose Prints?.

Iggy Who Breathes Fire by Carrie Kruck: Meet Iggy, a fiery new hero who knows exactly what she’s about—no matter what others think. Hilarious and heartwarming (get it?) in equal measure, IGGY WHO BREATHES FIRE celebrates that kids are the true experts when it comes to their own identity, and it’s up to them to decide when and how to share themselves with the world.

A little more about the authors:

Kari Allen lives in New Hampshire where she is an author and a teacher. Her newest book, Night Prints (2026, Little Simon/Simon & Schuster) is a follow-up to her 2023 board book, Whose Prints? Which received a starred review from School Library Journal, the 2023 Board Book Cybils Award, a Blueberry Honor Award, and was named a Bank Street’s Best Children’s Books of 2024. Her 6-book early reader series, Maddie and Mabel, has received three starred reviews and has been selected as a Bank Street Best Books of 2022, a Kirkus Reviews Best Books of 2022, a Cybils Award finalist and a Junior Library Guild Gold Standard. Her book, The Boy Who Loved Maps (2022, Anne Schwartz Books/Penguin Random House), was a Bank Street’s Best Children’s Books of the Year selection, and Kari has authored two Little Golden Books biographies: The Bee Gees and Julia Child. Passionate about literacy education and children’s literacy, Kari creates educator guides for authors and illustrators to encourage teachers and kids to interact with their books. When not writing or teaching, Kari might be found reading at the lake, beekeeping, or cooking for family and friends. Follow her atkariallenwrites.com and on Instagram @kariallenwrites.

Carrie Kruck was born and raised in Canada, studied and worked as a psychologist in Australia, and now lives in the woods of New Hampshire with her husband, two kids, and a delightful assortment of wild animals. She is the author of Iggy Who Breathes Fire (Disney Hyperion, 2024) and an upcoming yet-to-be-titled sequel, as well as Alfred Blooms (Random House Studio, 2025) and the forthcoming All the Living Things (Beach Lane/Simon & Schuster, 2028). She loves swimming in lakes, snowshoeing in forests, and growing food in her garden (which mostly gets eaten by the assortment of animals). In addition to writing, Carrie works in the field of neuropsychology, where she has a special interest in the power of story to affect memory, learning, and self-awareness. She believes storytelling is an essential tool for understanding ourselves and the world around us and is passionate about sharing books and stories with kids everywhere!
