On the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, join us for this special free event to learn about Toronto's Indigenous history. On this mindful walk, we'll explore the Bathurst and Lawrence area focusing on topics of Indigenous community and heritage. In conversation with each other, guided by an Indigenous educator, we'll discuss the relationship between the natural environment and built landscape. This tour will be led by Alan Jamieson (Cayuga, Six Nations of the Grand River). Alan is studying Urban Agriculture at TMU and grew up learning from Native peoples on both sides of the Niagara River. After years of learning to sing, dance, language, and history, the importance of planting and farming became clear to Alan. He believes that concepts such as the Calls to Action by the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, along with the United Nations Declaration of Indigenous peoples, can be put into action in a garden, and that working the land is a way of reconnecting to the original ways for all people.
Start Location: West side of Ledbury Street at the intersection of St. Germain Avenue and Ledbury Street.
Length of Tour : Between 90 minutes and 2 hours
Distance and Terrain : This tour is approximately 2 kilometers in distance. There are some unpaved portions of the route that take place in parks and gardens, and a park that is not accessible via a curb cut.
Registration is required for all tours. Please note: this tour is first come first serve and spaces are limited.
