To help commemorate the 100th year of his birth, St. Paul United Church of Christ in Pekin, IL will honor and remember Rev. Dr. C.T. Vivian by performing “Portraits of Peace”, a suite for pipe organ and soloist. At 1:30PM, join us for a pre-concert conversation about the work of the Rev. C.T. Vivian and Sen. Everett McKinley Dirksen and how their experiences here set the stage for the national impacts they each had. Chris Kaergard, Historian and Communications Director for The Dirksen Congressional Center will lead the discussion.
The 2:00PM concert will feature additional works that echo the themes of non-violent civil activism. In addition, the original funeral programs of Rev. Dr. C.T. Vivian’s service will be available to the congregation at this concert. Featured performers are Linda Andrews, organist and Dr. Alphonso Cooper, Jr- Rev. Dr. C.T. Vivian Diversity Teaching Scholar in Vocal Performance, both of Western IL University and for whom the piece was commissioned. St. Paul’s Gayle Cooper will assist.
