Dr. James Higdon, the Dane and Polly Bales Professor of Organ at the University of Kansas, will present “Paris in Camden”, an organ concert on Sunday afternoon, September 28 at St. Thomas’ Church. Dr. Higdon will offer a preview of a program that he will perform at Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris, France next month featuring works by Sowerby, Alain, Messiaen, Fauré, Barber, and Dupré.
Recent European concert tours by Dr. Higdon include recitals at Notre Dame Cathedral, La Madeleine and Saint- Étienne-du-Mont in Paris, St. Stephen’s Cathedral in Vienna, Chartres Cathedral and concerts and master classes in Germany, Prague and Poland and Russia. Significant American recitals include appearances at four previous national and regional conventions of The American Guild of Organists and The Tabernacle in Salt Lake City.
Come and experience this world class performance on St. Thomas’ pipe organ. The organ was built in 1992 (37 ranks in 3 divisions) and is believed to be the only instrument in the state of Maine by the Schantz Organ Company of Orrville, Ohio.
The concert is a fund raiser for St. Thomas’ Music Program with a suggested donation of $20 (though any offering is appreciated).
Free parking is available in the church lot on Wood Street. Handicapped parking is available at the Wood Street entrance.
Invite a friend; concert begins at 4 p.m., Sunday, September 28.
