"NYCHA’s Flowers" Exhibition Closing + Artist Talk

The Design Trust for Public Space Photo Urbanism program in partnership with the Bronx Council on the Arts is hosting an artist talk and performance to celebrate the closing of the “NYCHA’s Flowers” exhibition by local photographer Latricia Morgan.

Born and raised at the Ruben Betances Houses in the South Bronx, Latricia documents intergenerational community at NYCHA through portraiture, bringing a lens of luxury to her subjects and uplifting the beautiful bloom and growth of the human spirit, combining mixed-media and texture. The gallery is open to the public and on display with the Bronx Council on the Arts through July 18th during BCA’s opening hours.

Join us for an exhibition closing panel with the artist on July 18th to learn more about the inspiration behind the work and ongoing community development efforts. Hosted by the exhibition’s photographer Latricia Morgan, with panel guests:

• Saida Blair, Photographer + Curator: Saida is a Photographer, Curator, and Historian from Harlem, highlighting Black and Brown history through storytelling.

• Idris Sinclair, Photographer + Creative Director: Idris is a self taught photographer from the Bronx. His art combines street photography with signature style.

• Bree Person, Set Designer + Creative Director: Bree is a Bronx-native working in the tristate area as a set/scenic designer. She enjoys working with various materials and repurposing them to tell a story.

• Plus a special performance by RnB artist Same Self!

1 out of every 17 New York City residents live in the New York City Housing Authority community. “I grew up in the NYCHA Betances Houses. I’ve watched the creativity brew in my community for as long as I was able to come outside to explore. The underserved and underrepresented communities that make up NYCHA are a garden to me that everyone here holds a stake in," said Latricia Morgan, Design Trust for Public Space Photo Urbanism Fellow. “Black and Brown seeds were planted in New York City Housing Authority Projects and have been blooming ever since. There is magic growing in these neighborhoods and it's time to shine a brighter light on the flowers that bloom within these gardens.”
