About this Event
Adam England has had a lifetime fascination with ships and the sea and has been building models since he was a kid. He has displayed his models in several locations including the Cambria Library in San Luis Obispo County, Muckenthaler Cultural Center in Fullerton, Heritage Museum of Orange County in Santa Ana. Some examples are now on display at Collage in San Pedro alongside maritime paintings by Chris Butler.
During this presentation, Adam will be discussing his model-making ventures from start to finish. Starting big and going small, from cutting the lumber used in the work to finding household bits and bobbles to repurpose as components on the ships; to the creation of the stories he dreams up during the construction of the vessels. He builds some ships from scratch, others from kits, and others from “kit bashing” (augmenting existing kits).
Adam is a historian, historical reenactor, and part-time sailor who has worked on tall ships and owns smaller vessels that he enjoys rowing and sailing. He has worked in the non-profit museum community for 20 years as everything from curator to executive director and is a living history reenactor, replicating numerous time periods over the past 500 years.
