About this Event

On Thursday, May 9, we welcome Alan Chin to "Meet the Artist" night at CPW. Chin will present multiple projects, including Chinese American Photo Albums, which is currently on display at CPW. He will have copies of his books Chinese American Photo Album and Infinity Goes Up On Trial available throughout the night. This event will be live-streamed on CPW’s YouTube Page at 6 pm.

Join us every Thursday evening at CPW, when we host illuminating talks with local and visiting artists. “Meet the Artist” allows the public to get to know new work, to hear about artistic processes, and to meet friends and other local artists. The evening takes place at CPW’s gallery at 474 Broadway in Kingston, NY. It is free and open to the public. Coffee, tea, and snacks are served. “Meet the Artist” is made possible by a generous grant from the Arnold and Augusta Newman Foundation.

Alan Chin was born and raised in New York City’s Chinatown. Since 1996, he has worked in China, the former Yugoslavia, Afghanistan, Egypt, Iraq, Central Asia, and Ukraine, as well as extensively in the United States. He is a contributing photographer and writer to many publications, an Adjunct Professor at the New School Schools of Public Engagement and Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism, and his work is in the collection of the Museum Of Modern Art and the Detroit Institute of Arts. The New York Times twice nominated Alan for the Pulitzer Prize for coverage of the Kosovo conflict in 1999 and 2000. Alan is a 2020 and 2022 Magnum Foundation grantee. He is also the Managing Director of Facing Change: Documenting America / Documenting Detroit, a community-based photojournalism initiative; winner of the 2017 Knight Foundation Detroit Arts Challenge and 2019 and 2020 National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) grants, as well as a 2019, 2020, and 2021 Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs grantee.
