"Mastek4Good"- A Leeds Software Engineering Community
About this Event
At our last meetup, we explored the challenges Simon on the Streets are facing and this was the moment when we began to turn that understanding into action. We opened the evening with powerful, inspiring words from three members of the Simon on the Streets team. Their reflections brought the project's purpose back into focus. This is not about building technology for its own sake. It is about supporting people doing challenging, vital, human work on the frontline of homelessness and vulnerability. From there, the volunteers moved into focused working groups covering four key areas: Defining the MVP scope, Data and integration, Risk and safeguarding and Ways of working.
The energy in the room was fantastic; we collaborated, shared ideas, and started to move from discussion to delivery. Most importantly, we encouraged the volunteers to become self-starters. The group has the trust, talent, and permission to shape, design, test, and build. That does not mean rushing ahead blindly. It means working with purpose. Staying aligned with the needs of Simon on the Streets. Keeping safeguarding, privacy, and usefulness at the centre. Making sure that what we create is coherent, maintainable, and genuinely people-first.There is still plenty to do, but the foundations are now in place, and the volunteer teams are beginning to form around the areas that matter most.
