Land Acknowledgment

We acknowledge the land we are on is the traditional territory of many nations including the Mississaugas of the Credit, the Anishnabeg, the Chippewa, the Haudenosaunee and the Wendat peoples and is now home to many diverse First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples. We also acknowledge that Etobicoke is covered by Treaty 13 (also known as the Toronto Purchase) with the Mississaugas of the Credit.

We recognize that this treaty and treaties across Turtle Island have been broken and ignored by those in power and those with power as a vehicle for land theft, systematic colonial violence and genocide. We also acknowledge that patriarchy’s framework of gender bias and Indian Act continues to deny Indigenous women equal rights and that ongoing femicide (the targeting and M**der of Indigenous women), continues to terrorize Indigenous mothers and daughters, and their families across the land. We work to advance the Missing Murdered Indigenous Women+Two Spirited /Queer report's 231 recommendations.

Our call to action includes working to hold our government accountable, healing relationships, unlearning our colonial histories and working to practice the 10 Principles of Truth and Reconciliation as articulated in The Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada’s Final Report.

Other
  • Shoes--terrain includes gravel, decks, brick walk ways.
  • Keep each other safe--if you drink/imbibe, don't drive. Or bring a sleeping bag.
  • If you would like to speak or perform, let us know. We will work you in! All talent is welcome!
  • There will be photography and videotaping of music and other acts. By coming to the party, you agree to have your photo taken and used in pictures we may use to create a short document about LiisBeth. If you do not want to be photographed, let us know. We will give you a sticker to wear so that the photographer can ensure your wishes are respected.
