Sermon Series Overview: Christianity has survived throughout history because one generation has passed their faith to another. It is the calling & responsibility of the present generation of Christ-followers to pass their faith on to the next generation. The most important legacy to leave with ones who are closest to us is a spiritual legacy of relationships. Legacy is how you will be remembered – as either faithful or unfaithful, responsible or passive. The apostle Paul set forth to young Timothy as his disciple the process of passing our faith along to future generations – “What you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses, commit to faithful men who will be able to teach others also.” 2 Timothy 2:2. Jesus gave His disciples His heart for passing their faith along to future generations in His Great Commission to “Go make disciples of all nations…..” (Matthew 28: 18-20), and He prayed for His disciples witness to be effective passing their faith on to others in John 17: 20-23. By God’s wise design outlined in Jesus’ Great Commandment (Matthew 22: 35-40), the primary place to make disciples is in the context of relationships, beginning with marriage, family, and friendships. Legacy by definition is “a Thing handed down by a predecessor;” This ‘thing’ could be good or bad, positive or negative – like responsibility vs. passivity. It is also defined as “an amount of money or property left to someone in a will.”
