« What is this self-image that we progressively develop and evolve in a virtual, and ultimately, imaginary world? What is this new dramatized ritual that becomes increasingly complex, in which we engage every day ? How are our bodies affected by the constant staging of ourselves on a screen ? In 2017, Dodescaden reenacted Jean Rouch’s film called "Mad Masters" in a performance. As the Haoukas in the film shifted from animist figures of power to colonialist figures of power, Laurence Maillot, Jeremy Demesmaeker, and their team attempted to identify the new forces of power in 2017. They drew from political figures, immigration issues, and, at the onset, emerging social media figures. By 2024, these forces had evolved. Media, imagery, social media, tutorials, TikTok, YouTube, Instagram—everyone potentially has something to sell, convey, communicate, and critique. »

In a setup that taps into the imagination of social networks and marked by rings of light (known as "ring lights," lights used for selfies), three performers find themselves at the heart of a circular stage facing the eye of a cameraman. In turn, alone and together, within and outside the frame, a intertwining of gazes and engaged bodies for a form of pas de deux. We are in an arena, a ring, like a bull and its matador, in search of a common (graceful) moment, a community of the present moment. The aim is to bring forth paradoxical, comedic, and terrifying figures, constructed from the new forces of power that govern our contemporary society, simultaneously oppressive and laden with fantasies.
And perhaps, to attempt this shift: to bring forth figures built on our forces of desire, to evoke figures, not necessarily oppressive, but forces of potentiality, figures of a possible future, figures that carry within them an emancipatory potential, that carry within them a potential to transform the world, a potential to resonate with the world. To evoke figures of resistance to tremble with the world.
