A unique celebration of America's 250th and our beloved author's wicked wit!
About this Event

Join your fellow Janeites at Marymount Manhattan College on the afternoon of Saturday, July 18th, for a tea party and lively, interactive presentation on social life in Regency England and early America.

Historians and educators Lena Ruth Yasutake and Christoph Yasutake will preside (in period costume, natch) at this elegant entertainment: serving black tea and delectable treats, both savory and sweet, on fine English china — teaching etiquette and popular card-games of the day — and "spilling the tea" (i.e. hot gossip!) from the letters of Jane Austen and the ladies of the Revolution.

We'll gather in The Commons on the third floor of Marymount Manhattan College, an ADA-accessible venue located at 221 East 71st St., New York City. Doors open and the program begins at 2:00 PM.

This event is a regional meeting of the Jane Austen Society of North America (JASNA) New York Metropolitan Region. Like most of our gatherings, this one is open to JASNA members and non-members alike. If you are not yet a JASNA member, however, we encourage you to join! Learn more on our "about" page here.

Because the room will be configured with tea-tables, space for this meeting is especially limited: we encourage you to register early if you're planning to come. Registration will close on Friday, July 10th, or whenever all available places are filled.

As in our recent meetings, JASNA member and documentary filmmaker Mary Anne Rothberg will be recording some of our event. Participants who do not wish to be filmed are welcome to opt out.

Please email [email protected] with any dietary restrictions, as the presenters are eager to accommodate everyone.

And as always, please feel free to email us at [email protected] with any questions.

We look forward to seeing you in July!
