About this Event
As part of After School Special: The 2024 School of Visual Arts Alumni Film & Animation Festival, we are pleased to present a screening of the film Igualada (2024). Direct from the 2024 Sundance Film Festival, this engrossing, timely documentary follows Black Colombian activist Francia Márquez on her dark horse campaign for Colombia's presidency. Join producer Daniela Alatorre (MFA 2015 Social Documentary Film) for a discussion following the film. The Q&A will be moderated by current SVA student Alejandro Abarca (MFA 2025 Photography, Video and Related Media).
Synopsis: Black Colombian activist Francia Márquez transforms a derogatory term, "Igualada," into a symbol of rights defiance. Her presidential campaign inspires a nation to dream of a more equitable future, challenging societal norms. The film is presented in Spanish, with English subtitles.
Igualada is not rated by the MPAA, and some material may be inappropriate for children under the age of 10. Children ages 3 and under may not be admitted.
Doors will open approximately 30 minutes prior to each screening. Guests can enjoy a special selection of videos by SVA alumni in the lobby while waiting to enter.
