"How Good Literature Can Save the World " - an evening with Dr Stephen McInerny
Schedule
Mon Jul 08 2024 at 06:00 pm
UTC+12:00Location
St Bede's College Theatre | Christchurch, CA
Below is our plan for the evening; there may be some minor changes but this should give you a good idea of what to expect:
Part 1:
- Quick review of what we mean by "liberal arts"
- How good literature and a sense of beauty can save the world - or at least can save my family
Part 2:
- Practical advice on introducing literature into the family - how to read it, how to discuss it
Part 3:
- Break-out group discussion: "Books that have changed my life" / "Books I should probably read but feel too intimidated to pick up"
- Authors that all people of good will should read before they die
- Take-aways: book lists / recommendations for reading aloud to children in families, or for personal growth as adults.
This promises to be a fascinating and rewarding workshop, especially for parents who want to foster an appreciation in their families for goodness, truth and beauty; and for teens and young adults who would like to deepen their understanding of our rich literary heritage.
Workshop Registration of Interest
For planning purposes it would help us if you could register your interest by filling in the form under the ticket link. This is not a commitment to attend, but will help us gauge likely numbers.
The evening runs on Monday evening, 8 July, from 6 pm to 9 pm. Light refreshments will be provided during the session. The venue is still to be confirmed - we will provide updated information on that soon.
Please come along and support us in our mission to promote the value of liberal arts here in New Zealand!
