Arthur Roger Gallery invites you to an evening with Dr. Fahamu Pecou in conversation with celebrated New Orleans poet Sunni Patterson.
The talk centers on Pecou's current exhibition, "God Snapped When She Made Water… and Black Women" — a powerful body of work honoring Black women as sacred architects of culture, style, and spiritual life. Drawing from Yoruba tradition and Black aesthetic practices, the exhibition spans paintings, works on paper, and the "Fly(Girl) Whisks" — ceremonial objects traditionally carried by Yoruba nobility, here reimagined with human hair, braids, and beads as tributes to Black feminine genius.
Sunni Patterson — poet, educator, and a beloved New Orleans literary voice — brings her own deep engagement with Black womanhood and spirituality to the conversation, promising an exchange as layered and luminous as the work itself.
