As our Community Indigo Dye Vat nears exhaustion, this is your chance to experiment with it however you desire!
About this Event

Meet at the Indigo Vat in the courtyard between the E and F Wings at Cubberley Community Center in Palo Alto, CA.

This event will be the conclusion to a series of more structured Indigo Dye gatherings, so it's a final opportunity to play and experiment without concern for maintaining the Vat.

Have you been itching to try something creative, weird, or unusual? This is your chance!

Dye an item made from mixed fibers! Bring some paper and try painting with the dye! Curious to see how a pair of old shoes take Indigo? Dunk 'em and see! Want to take home a cup of dye home and try to dye your wooden mailbox? Go for it! The disclaimer that goes along with this event is that Jaya certainly doesn't know how the Indigo Vat will be fairing at this point... It will likely be weaker and less consistent, as it nears exhaustion. This is just a chance to experiment with the last of the Indigo Vat, before it gets discarded.

Leftover rubber bands, clamps, and thread may be available to play around with shibori or tie-dye patterns independently, but supply availability is not guaranteed. If you have a particular vision, you're welcome to do your own research and/or bring your own supplies. Jaya will cheer you on as you explore! Depending on the "adventure" you choose, your process might be very quick, but we have quite a bit of time set aside to make sure everyone has the time they need.

Dye can be messy, so it's suggested that you wear stain-friendly clothes. There will be a few pairs of gloves and aprons to share, but if you have your own, please bring them. We may still have some plastic grocery bags available to take home freshly-dyed items, but if you're worried about leakage in transport, bring a water-proof bag or tub that meets your own personal standards. All ages welcome, but children must be accompanied by an adult.

Space is limited, so sign ups are necessary. Contact Jaya directly at [email protected] with any questions.
