About this Event
This May, New Heritage Theatre Group, in association with Community Works NYC, is presenting a rare dual theatrical offering: two original, full-length spoken-word one-man shows — Broken Mirror and The Ballad of Dog God — staged across Off-Broadway venues as a limited cultural event.
These works sit at the intersection of contemporary theatre, Black narrative tradition, and modern spoken-word performance — engaging audiences who may not typically attend poetry events while offering theatre-goers a form that feels urgent, kinetic, and unmistakably of this moment.
Broken Mirror is an award-recognized work examining identity, vulnerability, masculinity, mental health, and survival with honesty and rigor.
The Ballad of Dog God is a new companion piece — mythic, sharp, and politically resonant — interrogating power, responsibility, legacy, and what happens when those entrusted with care stop doing their jobs.
Seen together or separately, these works offer audiences two distinct entry points into a shared central question:
How do we become responsible for who we are — and who we leave behind?
Where is it happening?
