"All I Need Is Comfort" ARTIST TALK by LIZZIE BROWN
About this Event
“All I Need Is Comfort" is a collection of acrylic portraits, some incorporating mixed-media elements such as patterned fabrics, hymnal pages, and text. These works explore Black identity and the Black experience through the lenses of comfort, resilience, and introspection. Each piece seeks to reclaim the humanity often stripped from African Americans by bias. By highlighting a sense of vulnerability, this collection invites viewers to see the individuals depicted as everyday people in their most authentic, human forms.”
Lizzie Brown is a Richmond-based mixed-media painter and the owner of From The Core Art Studio. A Richmond native, she earned a dual degree in Painting/Printmaking and Art Education, with a minor in Art History, from Virginia Commonwealth University.
Lizzie’s creative practice serves as a form of ministry, centering on Black identity and the Black experience. Through color-block portraits, she highlights the vibrancy, introspection, and resilience of African Americans, seeking to uplift and empower every viewer.
