About this Event

Join us for 'A Place Called Home,' a site-specific, immersive performance piece by Blue Morph Collective, a Brooklyn-based interdisciplinary arts collective. This performance starts at the South 5th St and River Street Entrance; the audience will follow the performers to different locations throughout the park and end at River St and Grand St entrance by the beach

Each performing artist will present a collaborative piece based on their personal stories around the themes of migration and immigration, urban renewal and gentrification, family lineage and home – all while posing the question to the audience, “what is home?” The project is an invitation to remember the rich history of the people who lived and worked at a site that once employed thousands of Domino Sugar Refinery employees for almost 150 years. 'A Place Called Home', in part, is inspired by the work of Kara Walker’s 2014 exquisite art installation “A Subtlety”.

'A Place Called Home' is made possible by Brooklyn Arts Fund (BAF), the Greater New York Arts Development Fund of the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs (DCLA); the New York City Council, and the Office of the Brooklyn Borough President.
