Three actors play fifty characters, and the incomparable Ed McCravy plays the piano to create a classic Christmas radio show “A Dickens of a Christmas” at Bill’s Pickin’ Parlor for one day only - December 15th.Kate Brighton, Artistic Director of the Absolute Theatre Company, created the Old Blue Church Radio Show in 2018 with St Michaels Lutheran Church hosting the startup. Since 1816, St. Michaels has been known as “The Old Blue Church,” and the professional players opted to name themselves “Old Blue Church Radio Players.”
The audience will enjoy lively antics, humor, heart and a feeling of a simpler time with classic Christmas stories including Charles Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol”; Dylan Thomas’ “A Childs Christmas in Wales”; and Sophie Protheroes’ “The Lost Fruitcake” and “My Christmas Bike Blue Beauty”.
Dan Fleker heads up the cast playing Scrooge for the third time in a Brighton production. Dan’s first staged production was in 2004, and now 20 years later he reprises this role. He is a member of the acting troupe “Theophilus Live!”. By day he is an attorney.
Kyle Mayson, a master of many voices, graduated from Irmo High School and went on to Winthrop majoring in musical theater. Kyle’s humor and talent as an internet influencer has become a career with a following of 750,000.
Pianist Ed McCravy played in the Clemson Tiger Band and with many groups in the 50’s. He played for the Jimmy Farr Big Band for 20 years and led “Dancetimers” from 1994-2014. McCravy would come over to Bill’s Pickin’ Parlor after a gig and could be seen playing out front until 2AM!
Creator and director Kate Brighton will be onstage to round out the cast. She’s celebrating 50 years as an actor, director, playwright and producer.
