July Screening: The Golem: How He Came into the World (Der Golem) 1920
In medieval Prague, Rabbi Loew has read the stars and foreseen calamity for his community at the hands of the Emperor and sets about creating a supernatural being, a Golem, for their protection. All seems well until a realignment of the stars permits the demon Astaroth to possess the Golem and it runs amok.
Join us for Paul Wegener’s masterpiece of early German Expressionist film with live score by Adrian Bond and atmospheric projections by Joseph Karr.
As usual we will be discussing the film and the music afterward with drinks and nibbles.
