About this Event

If they could talk our old trees would have some fantastic tales to tell! They have lived through centuries of change, World Wars and famous moments in history. Many are over 500 years old and have inspired poets, musicians and artists across the centuries. They are home to countless mosses, lichens and animals that live in and around them, many of which are rare. The plants and wildlife come in all shapes and sizes, including a ferocious but tiny false scorpion, which walks on the trees’ bark searching for even tinier prey.

These trees with their unique shapes and character give joy to thousands of visitors every year who come to marvel at them. However, to try and keep these ancient beech and oak pollards alive and healthy for as long as possible takes careful management. Join one of the Rangers on this two hour walk to hear how and why the ancient pollards were created and what we are doing to keep them alive.

This event is free but we do ask for donations of around £3 per person - all money raised will stay at Burnham Beeches and go towards looking after this incredible National Nature Reserve. One ticket must be booked for each person attending. If you would specifically like to help with the long term management costs of the old trees, you can make a donation here.

Well behaved dogs are welcome but must be on a lead at all times. Please note: there is a £3 daily parking charge in all car parks at Burnham Beeches.
