A program of turbulent music written in some of the darkest times of the 20th century. Artistic Director Christine Harada Li tackles Prokofiev’s brooding first Violin Sonata in collaboration with returning guest artist David Fung on piano. Shostakovich’s foreboding Piano Trio No. 2 takes listeners on a journey unlike any other in chamber music eliciting the trio’s most chilling and eerie soundscapes. In Britten’s Canticle III Artistic Director Nathaniel Pierce offers a poetic reflection on the darkness and disillusions of the time.
