Mastering this terminology is crucial for effective communication in healthcare settings, as it promotes clarity, minimizes errors, and ultimately enhances patient care. Join us to unlock the power of this essential language!
Thursday, Feb. 26 @ 6 pm - Integumentary System
In this class, you will explore the integumentary system, the body's largest organ system, which includes the skin, hair, nails, and glands. This system performs essential functions such as protecting against pathogens, regulating temperature, and providing sensory perception, while also playing a crucial role in the immune response. We’ll not only delve into its structure and functions but also apply our knowledge to common disorders that affect the integumentary system.
Thursday, March 19 @ 6 pm - Urinary System
Dive into the fascinating world of the urinary system, where you'll discover how this vital system filters blood to eliminate waste and excess substances, producing urine in the kidneys. The urine then travels through the ureters to the bladder, where it is stored until it is excreted through the urethra. Join us as we explore the intricate structure and functions of this essential system, while also examining common disorders that can impact its health.
Thursday, April 9 @ 6 pm Nervous System
Discover the intricacies of the nervous system, a sophisticated network that orchestrates and regulates bodily functions by transmitting signals among the brain, spinal cord, and peripheral nerves. This system is essential for processing sensory information, managing responses, and ensuring homeostasis throughout the body. Together, we'll explore its structure and functions while applying our insights to common disorders that impact the nervous system.
Thursday, May 21 @ 6 pm - Endocrine System
Dive into the endocrine system, a complex network of glands that produce and release hormones essential for regulating key bodily functions like metabolism, growth, and mood. By secreting these chemical messengers directly into the bloodstream, the endocrine system plays a crucial role in maintaining homeostasis and coordinating intricate processes throughout the body. Together, we’ll explore its structure and functions while also examining common disorders that impact this vital system.
Thursday, June 18 @ 6 pm - Digestive System
Embark on a journey through the digestive system, a sophisticated network of organs that transforms food into vital nutrients absorbed into the bloodstream to fuel and sustain the body. This intricate system includes the mouth, esophagus, stomach, intestines, and accessory organs, all collaborating to ensure efficient digestion and waste elimination. Together, we’ll explore its structure and functions while also applying our insights to common disorders that impact this essential system.
Thursday, July 16 @ 6 pm - Immune and Lymphatic System
Discover how the immune and lymphatic systems collaborate to safeguard the body against infections and diseases by identifying and eliminating harmful pathogens. The lymphatic system transports lymph - a fluid rich in infection-fighting white blood cells - through a vast network of vessels and lymph nodes, while the immune system orchestrates a robust defense against invaders, promoting overall health and resilience. Together, we’ll delve into their structure and functions, as well as examine common disorders that affect these vital systems.
Thursday, August 13 @ 6 pm - Reproductive System
Uncover the fascinating intricacies of the reproductive system, a complex network responsible for producing gametes - sperm in males and eggs in females - and governing the essential processes of reproduction and development. This dynamic system, featuring key structures like the ovaries, testes, uterus, and prostate, plays a vital role in sustaining life through hormonal regulation that influences numerous bodily functions. This exploration will not only delve into its remarkable structure and functions but also apply our insights to understand common disorders that can impact reproductive health.
Thursday, September 17 @ 6 pm - Respiratory System
The respiratory system is a fascinating network that orchestrates the vital exchange of gasses, ensuring our bodies receive the oxygen they need while efficiently expelling carbon dioxide. This captivating journey will unravel the complexities of its structures - like the lungs, trachea, and bronchi - and illuminate how they work together to sustain life, alongside an exploration of intriguing disorders that can disrupt respiratory function.
Thursday, October 15 @ 6 pm - Skeletal System
Discover the intricate skeletal system, a framework of bones and cartilage that supports and shapes the body, protects vital organs, and enables movement alongside muscles. Examine its structure and functions while applying your knowledge to common disorders that affect the skeletal system, deepening your understanding of its vital role in overall health.
Thursday, November 12 @ 6 pm - Cardiovascular System
Discover the dynamic world of the cardiovascular system! This remarkable network, made up of the heart and blood vessels, circulates blood throughout the body, delivering vital oxygen and nutrients while efficiently removing waste products. Together, we will delve into the detailed structure and functions of this essential system, as well as explore common disorders that can affect cardiovascular health.
Thursday, December 10 @ 6 pm - Muscular System
Join us for an in-depth exploration of the muscular system! Comprising over 600 muscles, this essential system facilitates movement, maintains posture, and generates heat within the body. We will examine how these muscles work in concert with the skeletal and nervous systems, enabling a wide range of activities. Together, we will delve into the detailed structure and functions of the muscular system and explore common disorders that can affect muscular health. Don’t miss this opportunity to deepen your understanding of how your body moves!
