It was nice while it lasted,
but now we are so over staring at a screen...
It's time to get out and dance with other people!!!

The new season of ANAR DANA Seattle is about to begin!!! The introductory weekend for the ANAR DANA Seattle 2021/22 Training Project is October 2-3, 2021. This will be our 12th season in Seattle!!! We are looking forward to welcoming ANAR DANA dancers back into the community...and invite completely new people to join us. You don't have to live in Seattle to join the project. In the past the Seattle chapter has had members from Oregon, California, Texas and Canada and we will be glad to welcome you and host you if you come from afar. Please register to secure your spot ASAP.
During the introductory weekend we will explore a wide rage of dances and together we will pick our repertoire You have the opportunity to become acquainted with what ANAR DANA is all about before deciding to commit to the entire project. The project then begins the first weekend of November.
Cost: $200 per weekend with 10 participants.

In ANAR DANA you will learn dance techniques and expression, body mechanics and yoga, choreography and staging, dance notation and music analysis, singing and percussion, costuming and stage make-up, and importantly the historical and cultural backgrounds for the 7 different styles of women's dance we choose from North Africa, the Middle East, the Balkans, Anatolia, the Caucases, Iran and Central Asia.
In addition to the weekend dates we have seven community cultural evenings on the Fridays before each project weekend (starting with weekend 2). These evenings are designed to explore the cultures of our project’s dances in more depth, including ethnography, costumes, films, music and more. The cultural evenings are open to the public and cost $15 for general public and included in the class fees for participants.

You will have the chance to ask any and all questions about the work and together we will pick the 7 dance styles that we will work on over the following year.

We generally choose one dance from each of the following regions
1) North Africa
2) Middle East
3) The Balkans
4) Anatolia
5) Caucasus & Russia
6) Iran
7) Central Asia & the Northern Indian Subcontinent.

Yes! Whoever comes to the introductory weekend helps to choose the repertoire!
What we do is all up to you!
The project itself is a series of 10 intensive weekends of 14 hours each (Including an hour break for a potluck lunch) 11am-6pm Sat & Sun.
We learn the techniques of each of the dance styles decided upon, do dance training and yoga, learn about the cultural and historical backgrounds for the different dance styles, learn about choreography, staging, stage make-up and costumes. We learn 7 different group choreographies...although each student will not perform all 7 dances it is expected that she learn them all. Most of the costuming comes from the ANAR DANA collections. At the end of the project we do a recital...I do solos in between the group choreographies so that we have a smooth running, full evening performance. There is a certificate of participation for all who complete the program.
