Level: Intermediate
Purpose: This single-session workshop will offer the opportunity to objectively and subjectively review each participant’s previously-created video segments or projects in a group critique session to determine options for improvement, choices of visuals, and an opportunity to receive analysis of techniques used to tell the story from a former television director/producer.
Prerequisites: Depending on class size and time constraints, students should plan on bringing up to two previously created video works or production segments (each no longer than three minutes) for review on their personal flash drive or external portable hard drive. Please check with the instructor ahead of time to determine what format the content needs to be in so that the classroom computer can read the file properly. The content should ideally be a completed creation but a work-in-progress would be acceptable. It is best to provide two different projects as opposed to two segments of the same or similar project. Content can be long-form (part of a documentary, music video, news package, artistic work) or short-form (commercial or advertisement, highlight/demo reel, training or how-to video). Videos video or video clip/segment to be reviewed should not exceed 2:30 in length.

INSTRUCTOR:
Dennis Blader worked as a director at WTNH-TV in New Haven for over 20 years directing various programming (news, public affairs, commercials, promotions, and more). He was the backup director to the Sally Jessy Raphael show when it broadcast out of the New Haven studios before moving to NYC. He has taught TV production and communication courses (human, business, etc.) at multiple colleges and universities in Connecticut since 2003 as well as resume critique and demo-reel workshops.
