Analysing X and Y of the Maltese People

This is a workshop that will teach you all there is to know about genetics! You will watch a live DNA extraction (from a banana) and learn about a research study focused on the X and Y chromosomes!

The event will start with an interactive presentation about the basics of the cell, DNA, chromosome, and the uses of DNA analysis. Then you will have a chance to have any of your inquisitions answered by geneticists in a small Q&A section. Next its quiz time! A short fun trivia quiz will test all that you have learnt so far! After that, it is time to theory into practice. Watch and assist in a DNA extraction from a banana! Lastly, you will learn about the X and Y chromosomes in population research. Our scientists will take you through what the research is for and why it is impactful. You can register your interest if you would like to be part of this research and will be contacted at a later stage. The workshop is both informative, and interactive.

Hopefully you’ll get a real feel for how scientists study our genetic code!
